TV Wheeeeee!

The new TV arrived today. Super crazy awesome. Bit of a psycho morning though. I picked up the new HD cable box from Time Warner this morning, came back and found out my internet (done through Time Warner) was out. Tried a few things, put two and two together with the timing and called customer service (after having to call Nina to have her look up the number at work, I'm so helpless without the internet). Conversation went something like this (paraphrased of course but fairly accurate I believe):

Answer-Bot: Hello. Thank you for confirming your appointment for August 25th, all day.
Me: What?
Answer-Bot: ...
Actual Person: Hello thank you for calling Time Warner how can I help you?
Me: Sorry don't mean to be rude but what appointment did I just confirm exactly?
Actual Person: Your cable box exchange.
Me: Um, I just picked up the box at the office this morning. I've got it already.
Actual Person: Ah, I see that now. Okay I'll cancel the appointment. Now what was the original reason for your call?
Me: When I left to pick up the box my internet was working. When I got home it wasn't.
Actual Person: Okay, I'm going to try resetting your modem in the system.
Doorbell: Bing! (It's broken, that's the only sound it makes.)
Me: Sorry, hold on one second? Hello?
Man: Want your TV?
Me: Oh, sorry, of course. Bring it right in.
Me (to phone lady): Okay I'm turning the modem back on now... lights are coming up like they're supposed to ... almost done booting... okay connection looks good this time. And I'm sorry for being a a bit abrupt but the new TV just arrived a little early.
Actual Person aka Phone Lady: Haha, sure no problem. Is there anything else I can help you with?
Me: Nope, thank you. If everything doesn't work out with the internet I'll call back but I think it's fine.
Man (with TV now): Alright just gotta sign here.
Me: Phew, thanks. Sorry about that.
Man: No problem. Enjoy!

Yikes. It should be noted the TV arrived at 10:25, when the scheduled delivery time was 11:00 - 4:00. Also, has anyone ever had such an effective support call with their cable provider/ISP? I think not. After that I got to the business of not dropping a 60-pound, 42-inch, 1000-dollar TV while putting it on the stand myself, hooked it up, configured devices appropriately, and then found out that Time Warner screwed up and gave me the ESPN Networks in HD, which are supposed to be premium (many other HD channels are free). We'll see how long ESPN lasts, but it's gonna be on about 22/7 until it's gone or Nina changes the channel and hides all the remotes.

Speaking of remotes, ordered the Logitech Harmony 670 to handle all the button-pressing (awesome macro support) that's involved in the different devices (and cycling through like 8 inputs). It's a $150 dollar remote at Logitech's site as well as at Best Buy. Amazon lists it at like $250 (!!), but was charging $78.88 with free shipping yesterday. I jumped on that.

Okay that's all for now. Pictures to come, and possibly a comparison between mine and Sean's (mine is the refresh of his so-to-speak). Only noticeable difference so far is that I think mine switches inputs and turns on a bit faster. Not sure though, might just be optimistic observational error. We'll see.

We have a Vizio 42" plasma, its very nice. We get a few HD channels from Comcast. They're the ones that would be free over the air (fox, abc, nbc, cbs).
I also bought the logitech 550 for our setup. They are kick-ass. Take like 15 minutes to set it up and learn what all the buttons do on it, its awesome.
